Shanghai On Goerli Scheduled For March 14th

Ethereum core devs plan to upgrade the Goerli Testnet to Shanghai on Tuesday, March 14th at epoch 162304. Developers also said the Shapella upgrade on Ethereum Mainnet will likely occur in the first two weeks of April, assuming the upgrade on Goerli goes smoothly. Goerli is the third and final testnet to undergo the upgrade.

The Shanghai upgrade allows validators to withdraw their stake from the Beacon Chain to the execution layer. Node operators on Goerli are required to update their nodes to the latest client release prior to the upgrade. A Shapella Community Call is also scheduled a day before the testnet upgrade on March 13th at 2:00 PM UTC.

POAP Releases POAP Checkout

POAP expanded the release of POAP Checkout, a tool for selling POAP NFTs. POAP Checkout was initially piloted by ArtBlocks, EthStakers, and POAP inc. The tool is designed to handle POAP drops for larger audiences and allows issuers to set their own POAP mint price. The pay-to-collect model helps prevent sybil attackers.

POAP Checkout can also be used as a fundraising platform for communities, nonprofits, and charities with each POAP representing verifiable proof of donation. Creators can sell POAPs to their biggest supporters. POAP Checkout supports payments on Ethereum Mainnet and Arbitrum One. The tool is currently in a beta release.

Celer Network Releases ZKP Framework

Celer Network released Pantheon of ZKP, a community initiative for benchmarking circuit development frameworks. As a first step, Celer Network tested the performance of SHA-256 on various zk-SNARK and zk-STARK circuit development frameworks. The performance test covered eight different proof systems.

Benchmark metrics include proof generation time, peak memory usage, and average CPU utilization. Celer found that Groth16 frameworks are faster in generating proofs than Plonk frameworks. It also found that Starky is fast at generating proofs, but at the cost of a larger proof size. Celer says it’s open to providing grants to contributors.

Rocket Rescue Node Now Available

Rocket Rescue Node, a fallback node for Rocket Pool Node Operators, is now live on Mainnet. Rocket Rescue Node is designed to be an emergency fallback solution during downtime or maintenance. The tool is comprised of four Ethereum nodes, a custom reverse proxy, and an API and UI for obtaining a consensus client fallback URL.

Rocket Rescue Node ensures that duties such as attestations, proposals, and sync committees are performed. Any Rocket Pool node operator can request a temporary credential for a fallback node. To prevent spam, node operators can only request fallbacks up to four times per year. Each request remains active for 15 days.

MakerDAO Lowers Fees On rETH Collateral

MakerDAO lowered fees for borrowing DAI against rETH collateral using the RETH-A vault type. Rocket Pool liquid stakers can now borrow DAI with annual stability fees as low as 50 basis points. Users can manage their MakerDAO positions on Oasis and DeFi Saver. According to daistats, there are currently 4,762 rETH locked in the RETH-A vault on Maker.
